The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Officd sent the Phoenix Aviation Department a public records request June 11 askinfgthe city-run airport to make availablee lease, sublease and contracting documents related to businese entities owned by the Wilcoxes.
Wilcos did not respond to requests for commentg from the PhoenixBusiness Journal, but has told othed media that Arpaio is gointg after her because of her opposition to his immigratiob policies. The sheriff’s office investigation of Wilcox is the latest in a number of fights between Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas and the Maricopaw County Boardof Supervisors. Wilcox and Supervisod Don Stapley voted Wednesday toblocjk $1.4 million in statd money earmarked for Thomas’s office to enforcee immigration and human smuggling laws. The boarfd deadlocked at 2 to 2 on that vote stallingb thestate money.
Supervisor Max Wilson missed the vote becausre of illness and the matter could be Stapley and Wilcox earlier this year triede toblock $1.6 million in state funding for Arpaio’es immigration enforcement. Wilcox said the sheriff’s immigratiomn sweeps and policies unfairlytarget Hispanics. Thomax and Arpaio secured indictments againsgt Stapley last year charging that he failed to properly disclose business and real estatedevelopmengt deals.
